The City of Peekskill is situated along the Hudson River in New York’s Westchester County. Like much of the county, the area was originally inhabited by Lenape Native Americans and later the Dutch, who called it “Peeck’s Kil,” a term derived from the Dutch words for “stream.” The community later served as an important manufacturing center during the American Revolution as well as headquarters for the Continental Army. These days, the five-and-a-half square mile city is staking its claim as a center for both business and the arts. In 2002, the city created the Peekskill Artists District, an affordable cooperative loft project that provides live-work spaces for local artists. Meanwhile, efforts to revitalize the downtown business district are currently underway. Peekskill is the birthplace of former New York Governor George Pataki as well as actors Paul Reubens, Mel Gibson and Stanley Tucci. More than 23,000 residents currently call the city home.

Since 2003, the New York Social Security Disability attorneys at Hermann Law Group, PLLC have been representing disabled persons in Peekskill and the surrounding areas in claims for Social Security disability benefits. Our attorneys – including founding partners Lewis B. Insler and Gabriel J. Hermann – have over 50 years of combined experience practicing specifically in disability law. We have represented thousands of claimants in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

Social Security disability benefits are available for persons who are unable to work due to physical or mental impairments, or a combination thereof. The claims process can be long, contentious and confusing. Unfortunately, the Social Security Administration (SSA) initially denies the majority of benefits claims filed, including many that are meritorious. In order to win these claims, the claimant must file an appeal and will likely be required to appear at a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge

As Peekskill, New York, disability claim attorneys – unlike non-lawyer, so called “client advocates” – we understand how the opposing lawyers and, more importantly, judges think. We understand, for example, how a judge will analyze and approach your claim and therefore how we can prepare the strongest possible claim for you. We are successful in well over 90% of the claims we handle year after year. We are so confident in our abilities that in Social Security Disability cases, we will not charge you a fee unless we win your case
