Putnam Valley is just about 50 miles north of New York City, but town’s quiet, rustic aesthetic couldn’t be farther from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. With more than one-third of the 41 square mile town in southwest Putnam County protected against development, residents and visitors can rest assured that the contrast won’t be changing anytime soon. Nicknamed the “Town of Lakes,” the idyllic hamlet features three lakes, spanning more than 500 acres and surrounded by summer cottages. Nearby Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park opportunities for camping, boating, hunting and fishing, not to mention a chance to hike part of the historic Appalachian Trail.

If you are unable to work for a year or more due to a physical or mental impairment – or combination of impairments – you are generally eligible for Social Security Disability benefits. In order to obtain benefits, you must file a claim with the Social Security Administration (SSA), the federal agency charged with operating the benefits program.

Unfortunately, the SSA initially denies the majority of claims filed, including many with merit. This is in part because the agency is understaffed and overworked. However, as experienced disability lawyers, we believe that the initial denial is also intended to dissuade claimants from following out the claim process.

The best advice that we can give to someone whose claim has been denied is: don’t give up! Following an initial denial, a claimant can seek an administrative hearing before an SSA Administrative Law Judge. This, in our opinion, is a claimant’s best opportunity to win his or her case.

At Hermann Law Group, we focus exclusively on disability cases and we have represented thousands of clients in Social Security Disability benefits claims. We handle cases from application to award, gathering the necessary evidence to prove the claim and filing it on the client’s behalf, following up with SSA staff to ensure that it has the information it needs to decide on the claim and utilizing our significant litigation training and experience to represent clients in ALJ hearings and in federal appeals, if necessary.

We proudly maintain a success rate of over 90% for all decisions received over the past twelve months. We are so confident in our abilities that in Social Security Disability cases, we will not charge you a fee unless we win your case.
